Tips To Transform Your Yard Into Fall

Just because fall is here does not mean you cannot still enjoy your landscaping. There are many ways you can transform your yard from summer into fall. Keep reading so you can enjoy your beautiful yard once you are finished.

Plant Flowers

There are some flowers that do very well in the cooler months. Chrysanthemums, or mums, are the first up as you will see these types of flowers everywhere. The best place to buy mums, however, is from a garden center. This way you will know they were well cared for. Garden centers also have a wide variety of colors. For example, you can find mums that are yellow, purple, or red. Purchase a mixture of these colors or one color.

Another type of flower you can plant is the balloon flower. You can also find this at a garden center. It comes in shades of white, pink and blue. The cornflower is another flower you can purchase which can really brighten up your landscaping as they are bright blue. The cosmos flower will start flowering in spring but will also continue flowering until you have your first frost. You can also plant these in the fall if you prefer. Cosmos will seed, which means you will not have to replant them again as the seeds will fall to the soil.

Use Those Leaves

A lot of leaves start falling from trees in the fall. They are beautiful and come in a variety of colors. You can always leave the leaves on the ground each week until you mow, or you can rake them up and use them. First, you can use them as mulch on your flower beds. This will help drown out weeds as the leaves will block the sun so the weeds will not grow. Leaves also help control moisture and can provide protection to your perennial flowers during the cold winter months. Spread leaves around bushes and trees for winter protection. If you do plan to use leaves as mulch, you need to chop them up first, so the leaves do not fly away easily.

If you have children, the leaves can be a playground for them. Rake the leaves up into big piles and let your children jump in them. You may be surprised to find out how much fun your kids will have. Your kids can also use leaves in a variety of fall projects.

Visit a garden center near you to learn more about the flowers above. The garden center employee can also tell you of other flowers you can plant as well as give you many tips on how to care for them.
