Learn About the Process of Cutting Down Trees

When you hire tree cutting services to come cut down a tree in your yard, there is a process that the contractors will follow. Each tree service may do some things slightly differently, but the same basic steps are going to be followed across the board.

Check for Safety

The tree service is going to check for all the safety variables that can affect the tree coming down. That means they are going to look to see any of the branches are close to power lines, structures, or anything similar. While the contractor is checking for all the various safety aspects, they're also planning out potential escape routes for themselves. The escape route is going to give them a safe way to go in case the tree starts to come down in the wrong direction or too soon. It is an essential part of any safety plan. The tree service may clear a path that they expect to use if they need an escape route.

Plan for the Fall

Planning for the fall means that they are going to figure out where the tree is going to land. The tree service can control that to a large extent. Once they are sure which direction they want the tree to fall, the contractors will be able to do the work to follow the plan. That includes things like undercutting the tree and weakening it by cutting notches in the tree in the direction the tree should fall. While planning for the correct fall, the tree service may also clear out brush or smaller trees in that path.

Cut the Notch

Once all the plans have been made, it's time to start cutting down the tree. That involves cutting a notch into the tree and once the notch is big enough, inserting felling wedges into the notch. The felling wedges will make sure that your saw doesn't get caught up in the tree while you are cutting it.

Make the Felling Cut

Once the notch has been cut properly, the person doing the cutting will go around to the other side of the tree and start the cut to bring down the tree. This cut should be at least one inch higher than the notch, which is what forces the tree to fall in the direction of the notch.

If you need to have a tree cut down, make sure that you hire a professional to take it down safely. There is a process that they will use in order to bring the tree down.
